Spice up your life smoothies

With the original Spice Bus touched down just outside the Great Northern Quarter as part of the Spice Girls exhibition currently touring the UK ( you can find it parked up next to Impossible, a must visit night club and for two years in a row award winning ‘Best bar in the UK’, so make sure whenever you are out-out in Manchester you pay this exciting place where anything is really possible a visit), I thought it would be appropriate to inspire you to release your inner posh spice (or are you more a scary spice?) and share three spicy autumn inspired smoothies to keep you all going strong, feeling all sporty with a hint of ginger spice benefiting your skin having that healthy glow like a baby (see what I did here!). These three smoothies are full of natural goodness and with the clocks going back soon and the longer darker nights drawing in I believe these smoothies will help you feeling fit and healthy during the winter months alongside lots of girl power.


Wannabe pumpkin spice smoothie

This spiced up to the max pumpkin smoothie will tickle your taste buds, fill your tummy whilst being super good to your body. Combine all the ingredients in the blender, puree until smooth. Divide over two cups and enjoy with one of your own fellow spice girls.

Ingredients: ½ pumpkin puree, 1 medium banana, 1 cup almond milk, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves, 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice, ½ cup of ice.

Girl power Ginger detox twist

If you find traditional detox drinks too harsh for your stomach this is the one and only detox smoothie for you. It’s full of the following nutricial benefits: low cal, detox, immune boosting, anti-inflammatory and on top of that calming too.

Ingredients: 1.5 oz collard greens, 2 cucumbers chopped, 1 apple, 1 Meyer lemon, ½ inch ginger spice, 1 cup of water.

Spiced ginger strawberry smoothie

Cinnamon is a powerful anti-inflammatory. This smoothie will help lessen heart disease, help insulin do its job properly, which means less blood sugar spikes whilst being calming and immune boosting.

Ingredients: 1.5 oz baby spinach, 4 oz strawberries, 1 pear chopped, 1 tbsp cinnamon, 3 tbsp cashews, 1 cup of rice milk.


It’s safe to say that 20 years after the release of the Spice Girl movie, many things have changed, expect the essential need for girl power and looking after your body and mindset. I personally have never been a big fan of the Spice Girls. However what I have been a huge fan of is what they stand for: spicing up your life whilst empowering and inspiring other girls and women. Thanks to these girls I know what I want, what I really, really want and it isn’t a ‘zig-a-zig-ah’!
